I think he means the original buttons?

I don't know about vintage gibsons but I'm sure they're worth a fortune...

Maybe it would be worth it to buy these for someone who has a guitar of that era without the 'original' machines. If these are a perfect match, maybe the value of the guitar will be raised more than the price of the tuners (which is quite astronomical, for sure) ...Just thinking out loud here...

I'm not going to fascilitate that one...you'll have to find someone else.

Think about it though guys... IF these are REAL, then I could see someone who does high-end vintage repair/restoration wanting them. Gruhn has a 59 Les Paul right now that's $175,000. If ya needed tuners for something like that, this price might not seem out of line...

Yeah, on something like that, you're not buying a set of tuners, you're buying the phrase "all original" for the description of your guitar. I don't know what the market is for those, though, his price could still be way out of line. (Though, I guess, technically they wouldn't be original to the guitar)

The problem there is that there's a difference of at least tenfold between the
market value of a 58-59, vs a 54-57. I doubt they'll be flying off the shelves.

I agree with Mark. I once sold 5 tuners from a 1960 Fender Esquire (the sixth was broken) to a guy restoring a guitar. He paid $250 for the 5 tuners. That price was $50 more than I paid for the guitar (yes, this was 1980, when Fenders weren't worth much).

Are we sure those are 50's tuners? They look an *awful* lot like the original tuners on a 1971 LP Custom I have a round here... waffle back with gold keys.

There are tuners out there that I could see going for a price like that - those
ain't them.

175K for a 59 les paul .. must be an ugly one. The nice ones are at least 250+ ...

Not to highjack this thread, but do any of you guys have an idea what a 1940's Gibson acoustic archtop with cutaway is worth? It is in like new condition, and was just given to a family member of mine after the owner died. He bought it new in the 40's and never played it very much. I don't know the specific model but will find out.

Thanks!

John
